AnsWer :

Characteristics of muscular tissue:

1) The animal tissue which is highly specialized for the contraction and relaxation is called muscular tissue. Muscular tissue is called muscles.

2) Muscles are mesodermal in origin.

3) Muscular tissue is made up of thin, elongated contractile muscle fibres, hence, it is called contractile tissue.

4) They have the ability to contract due to the presence of protein filaments: myosin and actin.

5) They play an important role in locomotion and movement.

6) Muscle fibres are thin, elongated cells with one or many nuclei.

7) They are bound by sarcolemma and contains specialized cytoplasm called sarcoplasm.

8) In the sarcoplasm, each muscle fibre contains myofibrils.

9) They are made up of contractile proteins-myosin and actin.

10) This tissue is innervated with nerve fibres.

11) They are vascular and are supplied by blood vessels which carry nutrients and take away the metabolic waste.

12) About 40% of the total body weight is due to muscles in mammals.

\sf{\underline{\underline{\boxed{\green{\mathbb{\large{Muscular\: Tissue }}}}}}}

  • Muscular tissue forms the muscles of the body . Muscles can contract and relax . Thus they help the body in its moments .
  • 3 kinds of muscles are :-
  1. \sf{\bold{\orange{\underline{\underline{straited\: muscles }}}}}
  2. \sf{\bold{\orange{\underline{\underline{Unstraited\: muscles}}}}}
  3. \sf{\bold{\orange{\underline{\underline{Cardic\:Muscles}}}}}

\sf{\bold{\red{\boxed{\mathsf{\dag striated \: muscles }}}}}

  • These muscles are under the control of the will .
  • They made long fibers (cells) which are nucleated and striated - dark and light band run across the fibers .
  • This muscles move only when u want it to.
  • They constitute about 50% of the body weight .
  • These muscles are found in the arms , legs , face , neck , etc.

\sf{\bold{\red{\boxed{\mathsf{\dag Unstriated\: Muscles }}}}}

  • They are not under the control of our will.
  • They are made up of spindle shaped/slender tapering cells which are uninucleated .
  • They are found in the walls of the intestine helping in the passage of food , muscles of the iris of the eye , skin , lining of blood vessels , urinary bladder , uterus etc .

\sf{\bold{\red{\boxed{\mathsf{\dag Cardic\: Muscles}}}}}

  • They are involuntary in function and found only in the walls of heart
  • The fibers of cardiac muscles are striated , uninucleated and branched .
  • They are relatively short .
  • They can contract without outside stimulation and do not get tired soon.
