Your answer is 16.
Now let me explain
Let the point that the light ray strikes the mirror be 'y'.
Then draw the normal.
angle syt=angle syx
therefore,<syt-<syr=<syx-<syr
<syt-<syr=syx-<syq (<syq=<syr)
therefore,<ryt=<qyx
and angle qxy=angle rty (right angle)
so angle xqy=angle try
so ∆yxt and ∆ytr are similar triangle
and xq=2rt
therefore these two triangles are in ratio of 2:1 .
xy+yt=24
=>2rt+rt=24
=>3rt=24
=>rt=8
so xy=16
so point y (point of contact) is 16cm away from point x.
Hope it helped.
If yes then show your gratitude by giving me something also.
Have a nice day.
