Solution :

Total number of students = 2000

Number of girls = 800

Then, numbers of boys

= 2000 - 800 = 1200

Thus, number of girls to pass in exam

= 80 % of 800

= (80/100) * 800

= 80 * 8

= 640

and number of boys to pass in exam

= 70 % of 1200

= (70/100) * 1200

= 70 * 12

= 840

Then, number of girls to fail in exam

= 800 - 640

= 160

and number of boys to fail in exam

= 1200 - 840

= 360

Therefore, total number of students failing in exam

= 160 + 360

= 520

Hence, the percentage of students failing in exam is

= 520/2000 * 100 %

= 26 % ( Ans. )

Step-by-step explanation:

Total students= 2000

No.of girls=800

No.of boys=2000 - 800 =1200

Pass percentage of boys = 70%

Pass percentage of girls = 80%

No.of boys passed =70%

= 1200×70÷100

= 840

No.of girls passed = 80%

= 800×80÷100

=640

Total pass = 840+640

= 1480

Fail = 2000-1480

= 520

Fail percentage= 520×100÷2000

= 26%
