Question :-

Mary wants to make a box. She starts with a piece of cardboard whose length is 15 centimeters and width is 10 cm. Then she cuts congruent squares with the side of 3 cm at the four corners. What is the area of cardboard after she cuts the 4 corners.

Answer :-

To solve this problem, we will first find area of cardboard and then the area of squares removed from it. After finding the both we will simply subtract the area of four squares from the area of cardboard.

Area of cardboard = Length × width

= 10 × 15

= 150

Area of cardboard = 150 cm²

Area of one square = side × side

= 3 × 3

= 9

Area of four squares = 9 × 4

= 36 cm²

Area of remaining portion = 150 - 36

= 114

Required area = 114 cm².

Question :

Mary wants to make a box .She starts with a piece

of cardboard whose length is 15cm and width is 10cm .Then she cuts congruent squares with side of 3cm at four corners .What is the area of cardboard after she cuts the 4 corners ?

Given:

  • Length of rectangular cardboard = 15cm
  • Breadth of cardboard =10cm
  • Side of congruent squares = 3cm

To find :

  • Area of remaining cardboard .

Solution:

Area of rectangle = Length × breadth

Area of 1 square = (side)²

Area of 4 congruent squares = 4 ×9

Area of remaining area = Area of rectangle -area of 4 squares
