QM^2=QR^2-MR^2

=17^2-(48-40)^2

=17^2-8^2

=289-64

=225

QM=15

area of QMR= 1/2×QM×MR

=1/2×15×8

= 60 sq. cm

area of PQMS= PQ×QM

=40×15

=600sq.cm

total area= area of PQMS+area of QMR

=600sq.cm+60sq.cm

=660sq.cm
