1. The steps that can be taken to promote non-farm production activities in villages are -

1. Betterment in the Transport System

If the Transportation in Villages is promoted many people will get employment opportunities and they won't have to depend on Agriculture always. After a good Transportation system is set up , villagers can go to the cities also to do some work there.

2. Promotion of Dairy activities

Dairy is also a non-farm work , In villages setting up Dairy services can be started for welfare of villagers.

3. Setting up Cottage Industries

in villages we can set up small scale industries for promotion of local handicrafts like basket weaving , pottery etc.

4. Employment Schemes in Rural Areas

Government can set up new employment schemes in More and more villages to ensure that every one has something to do and get proper wages.

2. Savita was a small farmer who decided to cultivate in her 1 hectare Land. But she needed money for raw materials and to repair machines. Thus, she decided to take Kiran from the rich farmer - Tejpal Singh.

Tejpal Singh gave loan to Savita under two conditions which she had to agree. They were:

i) Savita had to recieve the loan at an interest of 24% for for months which is quite high.

ii) Savita also had to work in the fields of Tejpal Singh.

If Savita would have taken the loan from the bank then she would have loan at very less interest and also she need not have to work. She could have repaid the loan easily.

3. Medium and large farmers obtain capital for farming from their own savings or take loan from the bank.

Small farmers on other hand do not have sufficient funds. They borrow from large farmers on the village money lenders or the traders who supply various inputs for cultivation. The interest on such loans is very high. The small farmers are put to great distress to repay the loan.

4. Multiple cropping is the best method of increasing production on the same piece of land. it is the most common way of increasing production on a given piece of land. all farmers must grow at least two main crops ; many for growing potato as the third crops in same piece of land.

5. Farm workers at Palampur village get lower wages than the minimum wages fixed by the government. The minimum wages for a farm labourer is fixed at Rs 115 per day. But farm labourers get only Rs 70 - 80. This happens because of heavy competition for work among the farm labourers at Palampur village.
