✪ Answer: ✪
Both -OCH and -Cl show I- effect as 'O' present in OCH is a strong electron withdrawing group. Cl also shows I- effect again because it is a strong electon withdrawing group.
✪ Acid strength: ✪
As said above, both -OCH and -Cl show I- effect. It means the presence of the two groups will lead to increase in acidic strength. Thus, the two given compounds will be more acidic than parent phenol.
✪ More to know ✪
- The order of I- is given by :-
-NO2 > -CN > -F > -Cl > -Br > -I > -CF3 > -OH > -OCH3 > -C6H5 > H
- I- effect decreases as we move away from the electron withdrawing group.
- Basic nature increases with increase in I+ effect.
