Given : A solid cone has a mass (9 + 0.09) g and radius of the base (3 + 0.03) cm and height (1 + 0.01) cm.

To Find : maximum percentage error in the measurement of density

Solution:

Density = mass / Volume

Volume of cone = (1/3) πr²h

Density = mass /  (1/3) πr²h

Δd/d  = Δm/m  + 2Δr/r  + Δh/h

=> 100 * Δd/d  = 100 *Δm/m  + 2 * 100Δr/r  + 100 * Δh/h

100 * Δm/m = 100 * 0.09/9  = 1  %

100Δr/r  =  100 * 0.03/3  = 1 %

100 * Δh/h  = 100 * 0.01/1  = 1 %

100 * Δd/d  = 1  + 2 (1) + 1

=> 100 * Δd/d  =  4  %

The maximum percentage error in the measurement of density is 4  %
