Answer:

P is 9/20, Q is 15/28, and R is 2/7.

Step-by-step explanation:

If P:Q =3/5:5/7 and Q:R 3/4:2/5 ,then what is P:Q:R equal to?

Good question. I got stuck at the same question not a very long time ago. I had the solution but was unable to understand it. After contemplating for a while, i finally got it. Try to understand with a fresh mind.

Given P:Q = 3/5:5/7

here, Q is 5/7 yes? Good. Fix that for a while.

Next, Q/R=3/4:2/5

here, Q is 3/4 yes? Good. Now fix this too.

From above, we see for the same Q, we have two different values. So to clear this issue, we need to find some common ground for Q.

When Q is 5/7, you multiply with 3/4 and when Q is 3/4, you multiply with 5/7 and voila, Q is now 15/28 in both cases. This is the catch.

Now, back to the first ratio. Multiply numerator and denominator of P/Q with 3/4 and you will have…

P/Q = 9/20:15/28

Now, the second ratio. Multiply numerator and denominator of Q/R with 5/7 and you will have…

Q/R = 15/28:2/7

Voila! Job done. We have a common Q value. Hence now we can say, P is 9/20, Q is 15/28, and R is 2/7.

I hope you understood.
