Answer :

1. The mass number of sodium is 23 and atomic number is 11 . Find out the number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus and give the arrangement of the distribution of electrons outside and Nucleus.

Mass number (A) = 23

Atomic number (Z) = 11

  • A = Neutrons + Protons
  • Protons = Atomic number

=> 23 = Neutrons + 11

=> Neutrons = 12

& Protons = 11

& Electrons = 11

2. What do you understand by electronic configuration?

It is the distribution of electrons of an atom or molecule in their shells.

3. Describe the main postulate of the Dalton Atomic theory.

1. Elements/matter consist of indivisible small particles called atoms.

2. The atoms of the same element are identical.

3. Atoms can neither be created nor destroyed.

4. Atoms of different elements have different masses and chemical properties.

5. Atoms combine in the ratio of small whole numbers to form compounds.
