(x + 3)^2 + (y + 2)^2. = r^2 ···· ··· ··(1) . Since it passes through the point (0, -6) therefore (1) gives 3^2 + 4^2 = r^2 ==> r^2 = 25 . Putting in (1) we get the required equation of the circle as ;
(x + 3)^2 + (y + 2)^2 = 25 ···· ···· ···(2) . Further as the circle also passes through the point (a, 0) ==> (a + 3)^2 + 2^2. = 25 ==> (a + 3) = (+/-)sqrt(21)
which implies a =(-3) +sqrt(21) and
a=(-3) - sqrt(21) .
hope it helps
