Honour among thieves is the honour or respect within them that they would help each other and wouldn't try to steal them .They would act as a team or friends and would have a total belief on each other. Whereas in the story the thief Horrance was cheated by a beautiful lady who acted as she was the wife of owner of the house and asked him to Open the the safe for her as she has forgotten the password. Horrance helped him and asked to let him go. She agreed but only for 2 days as on third day the police came and arrested Horrance in respect of crime of stealing jewels as there were fingerprints of him allover the house. In this way he got to know that the beautiful lady was none other than a thief who cheated her. From that day he started hating the word 'honour among thief'.

Answer: The answer to this is as follows:

Explanation:

Horace Danby had always believed in the phrase 'honour among thieves' he thought that the thieves had a code of conduct that they followed strictly. however, Horace had a bitter experience during his last robbery it shook his faith in the idea of, honour among thieves. The reason was that another thief, a lady dressed in red, had broken the trust and got him caught by the police, she herself went scot-free but Horace landed in the prison. It was the lady who had asked him to break open the safe .he had thought that she was the mistress of the house but she turned out to be a smart thief like him.she had made up a smart story to get the jewels from the safe. Horace believed the story and broke open the safe without putting on gloves. After she had escaped with the jewels, he was arrested by the police because his fingerprints were all over the place, she had cheated him and broken his trust now he no longer believed in the concept of 'honour among thieves.
