One day Reeta went to a jeweller's shop with her mother. Her mother
gave an old gold jewellery to the goldsmith to polish. Next day when
they brought the jewellery back, they found that there was a slight
loss in its weight. Can you suggest a reason for the loss in weight?

yes, there will be a slight loss of weight because they gold smith uses a solution called: "AQUA REGIA". which is a mixture of nitric acid and Hydrochloric acid. so when dipped in the solution the gold or silver becomes brighter as well as has a slight loss in weight.

because the gold metal's jewelleries are polished by dipping them in aqua regia solution which is made up of nitric acid ND hcl with 1:3 nd due to presence of very strong acids present in the respective solution . the upper black nd dirty layer of gold metal is eaten nd removed by acids then they said to be polished,due to which it's weight gets looses. hope it helps dear. #scienceLover#
