Answer:

While some school and college students are thrilled about staying home, and ‘going to’ their respective institutions from the comforts of their home, not all students and their parents are so happy about it. Problems with internet connections and shortage of gadgets notwithstanding, incorrect posture might lead to physical health issues, warn experts. However, for parents worried about their child’s mental health while doing online study, there is good news, as mental health experts feel online study would not lead to any adverse effect.

THE IMPACT OF ONLINE LEARNING AND TECHNOLOGY ON STUDENT PHYSICAL, MENTAL, EMOTIONAL, AND SOCIAL HEALTH C. Halupa A.T. Still University/East Texas Baptist University (UNITED STATES) The purpose of this paper and virtual session is to provide participants with an overview of the effects of technology and online learning on student mental, emotional and social health. Technology is now prevalent in many countries around the world. Technology has exacerbated disparities and has caused an even larger division between the “have” and “have not” youth. Many lower income families cannot afford to buy the educational and informational technology that have proliferated society. In addition, these families cannot provide the academic help and support that may be needed outside of the classroom setting. This can have a negative impact on youth who are expected to have these technology tools as well as Internet access at home by their teachers and peers. This can impact student self-esteem and personal perceived value and cause undue stress. In addition, the positive and negative effects of technology on students' social and mental health as a whole as society becomes digitally-focused rather than relationship-focused is discussed. This session will provide an in-depth peer-reviewed literature review on these topic areas. keywords: technology in learning, technology disparities, health risks, online learning.

Disadvantages Of Online Learning

Only in a small group a person can develop properly. At school, students learn how to make friends, be patient, get rid of disappointment, and especially to compete. Competition between colleagues can be very stimulating and students will only benefit from it. Online learning cannot offer human interaction.

Another disadvantage refers to the fact that online courses cannot cope with thousands of students that try to join discussions. Also, online learning can be difficult, if it is meant for disciplines that involve practice.

In conclusion, online learning should be seen as a complement and extension of classical forms of learning. Not even the best online course can fully replace the personal contact with a teacher, or the human relationships that develop in a group. So, traditional classes shouldn’t be replaced with online learning.
