Both organic compounds belong to Alkane group. First compound is Methane and second one is Ethane.
According to molecular formula of Alkane i.e., C(n)H(2n+2).
For Methane C is 1 and H are 4 in number, but for ethane C is 2 and H is 6 in number.
According to molecular mass, methane is (12+4*1)=16 gm weigh and ethane is (12*2+6*1)=30 gm weigh.
That is how we can see that compounds of homologous series differ by 14 gm for Alkanes.
