Answer:

Fossils

Fossils are the remains or traces of ancient life that have been preserved by natural processes. Examples of fossil include shells, bones, stone imprints of animals or microbes, exoskeletons, objects preserved in amber, petrified wood, coal, hair, oil, and DNA remnants.

Formation of fossils

Most fossils are formed through permineralization. After the organism dies, its cellular spaces get filled with dissolved minerals which are carried by groundwater. The minerals eventually crystalize and harden into rocks that have the shape of the organism.

Determination of age of fossils

The age of the fossils is determined by the Radioactive carbon dating technique in which the half-life of carbon and found radioactive elements is determined to calculate the age of a fossil.
