Question:-
Three incandescent bulbs of 100 W each are connected in series in an electric circuit. In another circuit, another set of three bulbs of the same wattage are connected in parallel to the same source.
(а) Will the bulb in the two circuits glow with the same brightness? Justify your answer.
(b) Now let one bulb in both the circuits get fused. Will the rest of the bulbs continue to glow in each circuit? Give reason.
Answers
Answer:
The resistance of the bulbs in series will be three times the resistance of single bulb. Therefore, the current in the series combination will be one-third compared to current in each bulb in parallel combination. The parallel combination bulbs will glow more brightly.
Heye, Friends !!
In this question, they’ve given us two connections of three 100W bulbs. To know if the bulbs will glow with the same intensity, we must know the current through each circuit. Using ohm’s law we can find this. The circuit in which the bulb draws more current will have more intensity. Thus, it will glow brighter.
: (a) No. the bulb in both the circuits will not glow with same brigtness because the voltage flowing through the series combination gets distributed among the three bulbs and even we know that in series combination the equivalent resistance is more as a result of which it will resist current. as a result the brightness in series will be less as compare to parallel.
:(b) No. We know that in series combination each bulb is connected one after another and if one bulb breaks the circuits gets broken as a result the bulbs will stop working. Wheras in parallel combination each bulb is indiviual of the circuit and if one bulb breaks the other will go on working.
We know that ,
In a parallel connection, even when one connection is interrupted it does not affect the other connections of the circuit. The intensity is comparatively more for a parallel circuit. This is the reason why home appliances are connected in parallel. The current drawn by each appliance will still be the same even if one of them malfunctions.
Hope This Helps. Please Give Thumbs Up... :)
