- Muslims also seek guidance from the Hadith , which are writings about the life of the Prophet Muhammad. They were remembered by close followers of the Prophet and were later written down. They teach Muslims how to live their lives, and to understand and follow the teachings of the Qur'an. According to Munthiri, there are a total of 2,200 hadiths (without repetition) in Sahih Muslim. According to Muhammad Amin, there are 1,400 authentic hadiths that are reported in other books, mainly the six major hadith collections.
- The Qur'an considers shirk as a sin that will not be forgiven if a person dies without repenting of it. Ithm is also associated with what is considered the worst sin of all, shirk. Shirk signifies the accepting of a presence of other divinities at the side of God. The Quran states that: He who associates with God has surely forged a great sin (ithm).
