Answer:

In biochemistry, chemosynthesis is the biological conversion of one or more carbon-containing molecules and nutrients into organic matter using the oxidation of inorganic compounds or methane as a source of energy, rather than sunlight, as in photosynthesis

WHAT IS CHEMOSYNTHESIS?!

The abyssal zone forms a large portion of the ocean and might be considered a biome unto itself a place where plant and animal communities have learned to exist without the source of energy used by the rest of the planet light from the sun. Ocean-dwelling plankton and plants create organic matter by photosynthesis. But life in the abyss, where no light penetrates, requires a different set of rules. Here, bacteria perform chemosynthesis, converting sulfur into organic matter. The supply of sulfur is plentiful: Hydrothermal vents, formed from volcanic activity and the movement of tectonic plates, pump Hydrogen sulfide to the ocean floor. The chemosynthetic bacteria form the basis of an entire deep-sea food chain, a biologic community supported by geothermal power.
