Mention any one account used by him to locate the early settlements of Harappa civilization. Cunningham was the Director-General of the ASI. He used the accounts left by Chinese Buddhist pilgrims who had visited the subcontinent between the fourth and seventh centuries CE to locate early settlements

The main features of each settlements were:
(i) The first settlement was smaller in size but it was located on the higher ground because it was built upon mud platform. It has the Great Bath and the Warehouse.
(ii) The second settlement was much larger than the first one but it was situated on lower location.

Two features of Harappan settlements were:
- The first sattlement was smaller but located at the higher ground it was called Citadel. It's building were constructed on mud brick platforms. It was walled and separated from the other settlement of the town.
- The second sattlement was called Lower Town. It was also walled like the first sattlement. And it too was built on the mud brick platform however it was also a residential town.
