Answer-

Signals in a synapse flow from axonal end of one neuron to dendritic end of another neuron but not the reverse because when this electrical signal after reaching the axonal end releases a chemical. This chemical then moves towards the dendrite end of the other neuron.

Question:-

Why is the flow of signals in a synapse from axonal end of one neuron to dendritic end of another neuron but not the reverse?

  • Axon is one in number as compared to the dendrites which are numerous in number. This chemical diffuses towards the dendrite end of next neuron where it generates an electrical signal.
  • They receive the signals from the axon and carry them further to other neurons. In this way, it is ensured that nerve impulses travel in only one direction .

Hence, the flow of signals in a synapse happens from axonal end of one neuron to dendritic end of another neuron but not in the reverse direction.
