QuestionFollowing questions consist of two statements – Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Answer these questions selecting the appropriate option given below: (a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A. (b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A. (c) A is true but R is false. (d) A is false but R is true. Assertion(A) : The centre of curvature is not a part of the mirror. It lies outside its reflecting surface. Reason (R) : The reflecting surface of a spherical mirror forms a part of a sphere. This sphere has a centre.

Answer:

Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.

Explanation:

Centre of curvature : It is the centre of the sphere of which the spherical mirror is a part. It is not the part of the reflecting surface. The distance between the centre of curvature to the pole of the reflecting surface is known as the radius of the curvature. The surface of the mirror which reflects the falling ray of light is the part of the sphere.

The arc-like boundary of the spherical mirror is known as aperture and it represents the region from which reflection can take place.

So from the above discussion it is clear that both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.
