1. This question has two subparts, A+B. Both have to be answered:
A. When the narrator was born, why did no one congratulate her parents? What do we learn
about the position of women in the society which the narrator belongs to? Give a reasoned
answer in 250-300 words. (10 marks)
B. Imagine that you are the narrator of passage 1. Write a diary entry in 350-500 words.
describing a typical school day. (15 marks)
2. This question has two subparts, A+B. Both have to be answered:
A. The narrator of passage 1 comes across as a confident, spirited girl Do you agree? Assess her
observations on the people around her, and her descriptions of her interactions with them, and
give a reasoned answer in 250-300 words. (10 marks)
B. Imagine that a journalist from the United States visits the village of the narrator of passage 1
to do research on and write an article about her village. Write a dialogue exchange where the
narrator tells the journalist about the village and her life. You will need to include at least two
characters (the narrator and the journalist), and appropriate stage directions. There should be at
least 30 dialogues overall. (15 marks)
