☺ Questions:

1) For the same kinetic energy of a body, what should be the change in its velocity if its mass is increased sixteen times?

2) Saurav exerts a force of 150 N in pulling a cart at a constant speed of 15 m/s. Calculate the power spent by him.

1) **Let the initial mass, m1 = m,

velocity, v1 = v

**Final mass, m2 = 16 m,

velocity, v2=?

Now,

1/2 m1v1² = 1/2 m2v2²

=> 1/2 mv² = 1/2 × 16 mv2²

Therefore,

v2² = v²/16

=> v2 = √v²/16 = 1/4 v.

Thus, velocity should be one fourth.

2) From the question,

F = 150 N, v= 15 m/s, P=?

As,

P= W/t = F × s/t = F.v

= 150 × 15 = 2250 W.

Hence, the power spent by Saurav is 2250 W.

Question (1)

If mass increases 16 times then to maintain kinetic energy velocity should be 4 times increases ...

inital mass = m

increased mass = 16m

inital v = v

new v = v1

so,

k = 1/2 mv² ------ initial kinetic energy

k = 1/2(16m)(v1)² = 8m(v1)² ------ new kinectic energy .

Now, it is given that kinetic energy is same ,,

so,

1/2 mv² = 8m(v1)²

→ mv² = 16(v1)²

→ (v1)² = 16/v²

→ v1 = 4/v

So to maintain same kinetic energy velocity should be increase 4 times ..........

Question (2)

Given :---

  • Force = 150N
  • speed = 10m/s

Formula used

  • Power = Force × speed .

putting values we get,

Power = 150 × 10 = 1500 watt ..
