The French Republic was formed for the first time on 22nd September, 1792.  A national convention took place which decided on setting up the First Republic.  A Republican institution replaced the monarchy system under the French king.  This led to the formation of the consulate and Napoleon emerged as the most powerful general.  The French Republic ended till the declaration of the First French Empire.
