Ans: This poem was written by Road Dahl.

Ans: It was written in the mid 1960's.

Q3- What is the poet’s attitude towards television in the poem?

Ans:  The poet does not support the use of television because it captures the attention of little children for long hours. He claims that it makes their brains dull. In contrast to books he thinks that only books give children imagination. He even calls the television,  an “idiotic thing” which delivers only “shocking ghastly junk”. Furthermore, he tells the parents to throw their TV's away and get bookshelves instead.

Q4- In the“Television”, the poet says “It keeps them still”. What keeps them still and how does it do so?

Ans:The television keeps the children still for long hours. Because it draws their attention and prevents them from doing evil deeds like climbing the window sill, kicking, fighting and or punching things around, etc.

Ans: The reactions of children glued to a TV set,are that

1-  Sitting for a long time before the television set, they become tired.
