• During the 8th to the 10th centuries CE, the Rashtrakuta dynasty ruled South India. Their Empire constituted the present states of India, that is, Tamil Nadu , Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Gujárat, and Karnataka state as a whole. At its peak. Its significance can be measured by the writings of many Islamic voyageurs and academics, especially Al-Masudi and Ibn Khordadbih (10th cent. CE), who wrote that at that time all the other Kings  prayed to the Rashtrakutas as a "higher power & prostrated themselves" in "reverence" before them, such was Rashtrakutas' influence & impression.

Large areas of land were cleared & farming increased, large-scale tank irrigation projects were developed to enhance agriculture in this period as the income from land was used for meeting expenses of state expansion..
