Buddhism is the path to Enlightenment followed by Buddhists. It consists of ethical behavior, cultivating positive emotions, study, ritual and meditation.

To become a Buddhist, a person is given the Three Refuges: The Buddha, representing the goal of total Enlightenment, the Dharma,being the Teachings, and the Sangha, being the community of realised beings who teach and support you. You repeat each of these three times from the precentor, who may be a monk or nun or senior Buddhist. If no such person is available within a day’s ride, you may self-administer. Then you find a Teacher and practice.
