Answer:

First of all, what is thanksgiving day? Why is it celebrated in some western countries like US and Canada? As per the information I got on the Web, it is the day celebrating harvesting, also on that day family members get together.

Now let's come to India. Are we not celebrating harvesting? In Tamilnadu, we celebrate Pongal for four consecutive days in the names of Thai Pongal (to celebrate harvesting/thanksgiving to the Sun) , Maattu Pongal (thanksgiving to the cattle used for agriculture) , Kaanum Pongal (for family get together)and Thiruvalluvar day(in gratitude of renowned Tamil poet, Thiruvalluvar who wrote 1330 couplets called Thirukkural which is also called as World common holy book) . In almost all the states of our country the same is celebrated in different names like Sankranthi in Karnataka and so on.
