• The fabric usually used in the clothes we wear is produced through two processes: the “spinning process,” where raw cotton is turned into thread, and the “weaving process,” where the thread is woven into fabric

• Plant Fibres are obtained from plant sources such as cotton, jute, coconut fibre, etc. Animal Fibres are obtained from animals for eg., wool from sheep and silk from the silkworm.

• Examples include silk, hair/fur (including wool) and feathers. The animal fibers used most commonly both in the manufacturing world as well as by the hand spinners are wool from domestic sheep and silk. Also very popular are alpaca fiber and mohair from Angora goats.

• Coir is obtained for coconut palm

Coir is extracted from the tissues surrounding the seed of the coconut palm (Cocos nucifera), which is grown on 10 million ha of land throughout the tropics. Coir fibres measure up to 35 cm in length with a diameter of 12-25 microns
