Congress was banned and policeand army was to sent to suppress the nationalist movement. after the failure of crisps mission it was obvious that the British would not grant freedom to the Indians so Gandhi ji gave the final blow to the britisher on August 8 1942. it was a non cooperation moment in response to Gandhi ji's immediate call for freedom .within 24 hours all prominent leader of Congress along with Gandhi ji were arrested.
