The 31st term of an A.P. whose 11th term is 38 and 16th term is 73

CONCEPT TO BE IMPLEMENTED

If in an arithmetic progression

First term = a and common difference = d

Then n th term = a + ( n - 1 ) d

EVALUATION

Let a be the First term and d be the Common Difference of the AP

Now

16 th term = a + 15d

So by the given condition

a + 10d = 38 - - - - - - - (1)

a + 15d = 73 - - - - - - - (2)

Equation (2) - Equation (1) gives

5d = 35

 \implies \sf{d = 7}

Now

31 st term

= a + 30d

= ( a + 10d ) + 20d

= 38 + ( 20 × 7 )

= 38 + 140

= 178

FINAL ANSWER

The 31st term of the A.P = 178
