The sowing period of Rabi crops is the month of October. They are harvested in the summer from April to June. These crops are grown on a large scale in India. Major wheat producing states are - Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. During winter, Western temparate cyclones leads to the availability of precipitation which helps in the success of these crops.

Kharif:-

Kharif crops are sown during monsoon from June to July. These are harvested during winter from September - October. The major rice producing states are:- West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Odisha. In West Bengal, Odisha and Assam, three crops of Paddy are grown in a year,. Air, Aman and Boro.

Zaid:-

During summer there is a period between Rabi and kharif seasons, known as Zaid season. Major crops grown during this season are:- Muskmelon, Watermelon, cucumber, vegetables and fodder crops.
