•Rabindranath Tagore was born on 7 May, 1861 to Debendranath Tagore and Sarada Devi in the Jorasanko mansion which is the ancestral home of the Tagore family in Kolkata (Calcutta).
•In 1913, he won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
•He was the first Asian to win this prize.
•Rabindranath tagore composed our country's National Anthem, "Jana Gana Mana".
•Tagore was a leading light in the Brahmo Samaj – a reforming Hindu organisation.
•Tagore was firm friends with Gandhi and admired him very much.
•Rabindranath began writing from an early age.
•In 1878 he study law at University College, London, but he left before finishing the degree.
