Internal linking is the process of creating a connection on a web page with another page on the same site or domain through a link.

For example, you write an article about selling leeches as fishing bait and somewhere on the page you link it with another page that is about "top 3 best fish baits".

External linking is the process of creating hyperlinks that points from your website to any other website than your own.

For example, you write an article about "5 things you didn't knew about leeches" and found an interesting story from a niched website you want to link to.

There’s an interesting article I read about the fact that internal links can help other pages from the same website improve rankings overall. And Google says that it seems like something worth trying out.
