Given :

The first flowerbed has 18 rows of plants

The second flowerbed has 24 rows of plants.

Each bed has the same number of plants

To Find:

We have to find the least number of plants in each flowerbed.

Solution :

It is given that one bed has 18 rows of plants and the other has 24 rows, and also each bed has the same number of plants

Let X and Y be the number of plants in each respective row in the first flowerbed and second flowerbed respectively. We can write it as,

⇒ 18X = 24Y

⇒    \[\begin{array}{l}\frac{X}{Y} = \frac{{24}}{{18}}\\\\\,\,\,\,\,\,\, = \frac{4}{3}\end{array}\]

The ratio of the X : Y = 4:3

∴ 18X = 24Y

   18×4 =24×3 = 72

OR

To get the least number of plants in each row, we find the LCM of 18,24.

LCM (18,24) = 72.

∴ The least number of plants in each flowerbed = 72
