Given :- Radhika is playing with a six faced dice having the possible outcomes 2,5,9,11,13 and 15. she throws dice two times. The probability of getting atleast one outcome as prime number is p/q (where p and q are coprime). The value of √2pq is ?

Solution :-

In a throw of pair of dice, total no of possible outcomes are = 6 * 6 = 36.

which are :-

  • (2,2) (2,5) (2,9) (2,11) (2,13) (2,15)
  • (5,2) (5,5) (5,9) (5,11) (5,13) (5,15)
  • (9,2) (9,5) (9,9) (9,11) (9,13) (9,15)
  • (11,2) (11,5) (11,9) (11,11) (11,13) (11,15)
  • (13,2) (13,5) (13,9) (13,11) (13,13) (13,15)
  • (15,2) (15,5) (15,9) (15,11) (15,13) (15,15)

So,

  • Total Number of favorable outcomes as atleast one outcome as prime number are = 32 .

Therefore,

  • Required Probability = (No.of favorable outcomes) / (Total no of possible outcomes) = 32/36 = 8/9

Hence,

  • 8/9 = p/q => p = 8 , q = 9 .
  • √(2pq) = √(2 * 8 * 9) = √(144) = 12 (Ans.)
