Natural Silk (or just Silk) is obtained from a material which comes out of silkworms. Silkworms are farmed for this purpose and the silk material is collected from them. The entire process is expensive and not easy to scale-up.

Artificial Silk is not silk, it is something which simple looks like silk. It may have the luster of silk to an extent, but the touch and feel are hard to replicate. In fact experts can instantly differentiate between both.

Artificial silk is made from viscose or polyester, both man-made fibres made in a factory. It is very easy to scale-up production and lower the costs. In any case, the raw materials are not very expensive.

Google wood pulp and polyester chips- they are cheap. Google raw silk- not so cheap!

A bonus tip: Want to know if the fabric you are being sold is real silk? Take a small thread from it and burn it. If it smells like burning hair, it is silk or at least a silk blend. If it melts and forms a hard bead, it is polyester, is it smells like burning paper- it is viscose.

I do this all the time and incur the wrath of shopkeepers, but I don’t get duped.

HEY HERE IS YOUR ANSWER

Explanation: SYNTHETIC FIBRES ARE CHEAP BECAUSE THEY ARE OBTAINED BY MIXING VARIOUS SUBSTANCES AND NATURAL FIBRES ARE EXPENSIVE BECAUSE THEY DO NOT CONTAIN ANY OTHER FIBRES. AND SYNTHETIC FIBRES ARE MADE BY MACHINES AS NATURAL FIBRES ARE HAND WOVEN..
