Radicals are basically a group of 2 combined elements. So it is is single group and have different valences from their constituent elements. Examples : NO3 (Nitrate- Group of Oxygen and Nitrogen) , SO4 ( Sulfate-  Group of Sulfur and Oxygen), OH ( Hydroxide- Group of Oxygen and Hydrogen)
