Radius of a circle 41 units length of chord 80 units find distance of the chord from the center of the circel

Answer:

Draw perpendicular for the centre to the chord, it will divide the chord in two equal parts (theorem) let the distance between centre and chord be x

We get rt triangle,

hypo = Radius = 41

Base = 1/2 chord = 40

Using pythagoras theorem,

Height = x = √41² - 40²

= √(41-40)(41+40) = √1×81 = √81 = 9 units

The distance between centre and the chord is 9 units
