.Radon-220 (220Rn86) is radioactive and decays to Polonium-216 with the emission of an α-particle. How many neutrons are in the radon and polonium nuclei?​

No. of neutrons in Radon = 134

No. of neutrons in Polonium = 132

Explanation:

Atomic number of Radon (Rn) = 86

We know that atomic number is nothing but the number of protons

Therefore, no. of protons in Rn = 86

Mass number of Rn = 220

Mass number is sum of protons + neutrons

No. of protons + No. of neutrons = Mass number

No. of neutrons = Mass number - no. of protons

                          = 220 - 86 = 134

We know that alpha particle (_2He^4) has 2 protons and 2 neutrons

Therefore after emitting alpha particle, the number of neutrons in the new element will be

= 134 - 2 = 132
