Required Answer:-

Rafa places a piece of Aluminium metal in a test tube containing copper sulphate solution.

a. Rafa can tell that a reaction has taken place by observing the followings:-

The blue colour of copper sulphate solution fades away and becomes colourless.

A brown layer of copper gets deposited on the surface of the aluminium metal.

b. This reaction is called as displacement reaction because here a more reactive metal (i.e. Aluminium) displaces a less reactive metal (i.e. copper) in a solution.

The equation of this reaction can be written as:-

Al + CuSO₄ ⟶ Al₂(SO₄)₃ + Cu

⇒ What is displacement reaction?

✓ Displacement reaction is a reaction in which a more reactive metal displaces a less reactive metal in a solution.

Some other examples of displacement reaction:-

• Na + CuSO₄ ⟶ Na₂SO₄ + Cu

• K + ZnSO₄ ⟶ K₂SO₄ + Zn

• Fe + CuSO₄ ⟶ FeSO₄

• Na + HCl ⟶ NaCl + H₂
