Rag Pickers are the people who picks up rags from the garbage bins.
They pay a important role in segregation of :
1.Dry waste like cans , plastic bottles, paper etc.
2. Wet waste like left over food, vegetable peels etc.
3. Toxic waste like batteries, medicine bottles, dried paints etc
4. They contribute a lot in
recycling of waste materials
there by saving money and time of municipality.
5. Inspite of health hazards to their life, rag pickers moves
from dustbin to dustbin in collecting all types of wastes
and later they sell to whole seller and retail seller who in turn sell it to industry which uses it as raw material for various purpose.
Hence I conclude by saying that rag pickers effort and role in waste management is appreciable but often its unrecognized.

Rag pickers are the informal municipal system. They basically pick up the trash from the streets and dumps. They play a vital role in waste management system, as they work 6 days a week and 9-12 hours daily to collect the trash that can be recycled. They pick and separate different types of materials like paper, glass, and plastic. The cost of hiring them is low as compare to the amount of trash they pick and contribute in the reduction of waste.  They are working daily to reduce the waste from the country, so they are a vital part of waste management system.
