The average speed  is 12 kmph

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Ragav  travel by  bus from home to market  at 40 kmph.

By walking back at 4 kmph halfway.

By cycling  the remaining halfway distance at  30kmph

To Find:

The average speed.

Formula Used:

Average speed = Total distance/Total Time

Solution:

Let the distance (one way) is 2P.

Time taken by bus travel =\frac{2P}{40}  hours

Time taken By walking  =\frac{P}{4} hours

Time taken By cycling =\frac{P}{30}  hours

Average speed = Total distance/Total Time

 Total distance  = 4P km

Total time  =\frac{P}{20} +\frac{P}4} +\frac{P}{30}

                 =\frac{3+15+2}{60} \times P

                 =\frac{20}{60} \times P

                 =\frac{P}{3}

Putting the values of Total distance  and Total time in formula no.01

Average speed = Total distance/Total Time

                            = \frac{4P}{(\frac{P}{3} )}

                            =\frac{4P\times3}{P}

                            = 12 kmph

Thus, average speed  is 12 kmph
