Question :- Raghav placed a 37-foot ladder against a wall of the base of the ladder is 12 feet from the base of the wall how high will the ladder reach up the wall ?

Answer :-

from image we can see that,

  • AC = ladder = 37 feet.
  • BC = Distance between Base of ladder and the wall = 12 feet.
  • AB = Height of wall up to the top of ladder.
  • ∠ABC = 90° .

we know that ,

  • in right angled ∆, (Perpendicular)² + (Base)² = (Hypotenuse)² .

So,

in right angled ∆ABC,

→ (Perpendicular)² + (Base)² = (Hypotenuse)² .

→ (AB)² + (BC)² = (AC)²

→ (AB)² = (AC)² - (BC)²

Putting values we get :-

→ (AB)² = (37)² - (12)²

→ (AB)² = 1369 - 144

→ (AB)² = 1225

→ (AB)² = (35)²

square - root both sides,

→ AB = 35 feet . (Ans.)

Hence, the ladder is 35 feet high up the wall.
