Given,

Ragu and Bala invest the same amount in a business for 6 months and later Ragu invests an additional amount of Rs 20000 for the next 6 months.

The profit-sharing of Ragu and Bala at the end of the year is  2: 1.

To Find,

The principal amount invested by Ragu and Bala.

Solution,

Since both Ragu and Bala invested the same amount for the first six months of the year, the profit-sharing for the first six months is 1: 1

Later, as Ragu invested an additional amount of Rs 20000 for the next six months, the profit-sharing became 2: 1

⇒ The share of Ragu is double that of the share of Bala

Thus let us say that the share of the amount invested by Bala = x

Thus from the given information, it can be deduced that 2x + 20000 = 4x

Thus x = 10000

Henceforth, the principal amount invested by Ragu is Rs 30000/- and by Bala is Rs 10000/-.
