Rahman and Sona happened to meet in a school reunion party after a long gap of 10 years. Sona is working as a doctor in a hospital of repute in Mumbai. Rahman tells her he is working as a manager in a travel and tourism company. Sona teases him by saying that he always wanted to join a profession then why did he become a manager? Rahman is quite taken aback by her words and tries to convince her by saying he is into a profession but Sona gives him four reasons to explain why management till date is not considered as a full fledged profession. Give reasons to support your answer.

If a profession is defined as a occupation that serves others, then management may be said to be a profession.  

  1. Body of knowledge: There is a body of knowledge peculiar to the study of management.
  2. Social obligation: A management is engaged in serving the society.
  3. Degree: There is no degree required to became manager unlike doctors. People with wide knowledge and training in the field of management are preferred for managerial jobs.

Thus management is fast acquiring the attributes of becoming profession.
