rahul alone can build a room in 20days . He starts the work and leaves it after 5 days .Arjun does the remaining work in 12 days .How long will it take if arjun did the whole work alone?How long will it rahul and arjun work together from the beginning?

Let the work done by Rahul be "x"
And as he does this job in 20 days,
The work done in one day is x / 20
As he does the work for 5 days , the total work he has done is
5 ( x / 20 )  =>  x / 4 
Which mean the remaining work left is x - x/4 => 3x/4
So Arjun as he completes the work of 3x/4 in 12 days , we can get a proportion.
3x/4 : 12 :: x : ?days 
Hence,
3x/4 * y = 12x    ( assuming y = ? days in the above proportion )
So y = 12 * 4 * x / 3 * x
y = 16
hence Arjun alone takes 16 days to complete the work.
