Complete Question :- Rahul and Rohit enter into a partnership by investing Rs. 70,000 and Rs. 30,000 respectively. At the end of one year, they divided their profits such that one third of the profit is divided equally for the efforts they have put into the business and the remaining profit is divided in the ratio of the investments they made in the business. If Rahul received 48,000 more than Rohit did, what was the profit made by their business in that year ?

Solution :-

Let us assume that, total profit in that year was Rs.6x .

So,

→ Divided equally = (1/3) of 6x = (1/3) * 6x = Rs.2x .

then,

→ Rahul recieved = Rs. x

→ Rohit recived = Rs. x

now,

→ Remaining profit = 6x - 2x = Rs.4x .

Since this was distributed the ratio of the investments they made in the business .

→ Rahul : Rohit = 70000 : 30000 = 7 : 3

then,

→ Rahul recieved = 4x * (7/10) = Rs.(14x/5)

→ Rohit recived = 4x * (3/10) = (6x/5)

A/q,

→ Rahul total - Rohit total = Rs.48000

→ [x + (14x/5)] - [x + (6x/5)] = 48000

→ (14x/5) - (6x/5) = 48000

→ (8x/5) = 48000

→ x = Rs.30000

therefore,

→ Total profit in that year was = 6x = 6 * 30000 = Rs.180000 (Ans.)

Hence, the profit made by their business in that year was Rs. 180000 .
