Hello Friend,

Here,

Marks in English = 78
Marks in Hindi = 72
Marks in Maths = 90
Marks in Science = 82

Let Marks obtained in Social Studies be x.

Average = 80 marks
So, (Total marks)/Number of subjects = 80

So, (78+72+90+82+x)/5 = 80
So, (322+x) = 80×5
So, 322 + x = 400
So, x = 400-322
So, x = 78

Thus, marks obtained in Social Studies is 78. (Option A)

Hope it helps.

The correct answer is option (A) - 78.

Step-by-step solution:-
Let Marks obtained in Social Studies be x.

As we know that marks obtained in :-
English = 78
Hindi = 72
Maths = 90
Science = 82
Social studies = x
Total marks = 322 + x

And average score = 80
Hence, Total marks/Number of subjects = 80

=> (322+x) = 80×5
=> 322 + x = 400
=> x = 400-322
=> x = 78
